Full Mouth Reconstructions
A full mouth reconstruction is a comprehensive dental treatment for the restoration and restructuring of severely damaged, decayed, or malformed smiles. Employing a wide range of individual treatments, including cosmetic dentistry procedures, full mouth reconstructions are highly individualized, as they are designed specifically around the needs of each patient. In many cases, Dr. Hong will utilize dental implants in the course of a full mouth reconstruction. Acting as artificial tooth roots for dental prosthetics such as crowns and bridges, these titanium posts provide unparalleled strength, durability, and support. If you are missing one or more teeth, gaps can be closed with the use of a dental implant and dental restoration. If you are missing most or all of your teeth, on either the upper or lower part of your mouth, implants can be utilized to act as a support structure for permanent dentures. During your initial consultation with Dr. Hong, she will educate you on the different restorative dentistry options, including full mouth reconstruction. At our Century City practice, we believe our patients should be able to make informed decisions about their oral health.
It is important to note that a full mouth reconstruction can take an extensive amount of time to complete, and the cost of treatment may be prohibitive for some – in such cases, we are happy to help with dental financing. If you are considering a full mouth reconstruction, you should be mindful that individual procedures are often performed separately, not at once, so that the mouth has time to properly heal following each treatment. Additionally, the placement of dental implants requires multiple appointments. Once dental implants are screwed into the jaw bone, the titanium and bone begin to fuse together through a process known as osseointegration. This process results in the implants being securely fastened to the bone, providing them with incredible strength and durability, but the healing process can last up to six months. Having realistic expectations for the cost and duration of your treatment will provide you with a better outlook and make it easier to undergo the treatment process.
TMJ Disorder Treatment
Also known as TMJ syndrome, temporomandibular joint disorder occurs when the joint connecting the lower mandible with the skull becomes inflamed. This condition can cause chronic pain and impairment. Common symptoms of TMJ disorder include headaches, ear aches, jaw pain, difficulty biting or chewing, clicking or popping noises when opening the jaw, reduced ability to open the jaw, dizziness, and even hearing loss. There are a variety of treatments that can be used to help reduce or even eliminate the symptoms of this condition, including:
- Correcting malocclusion
- Splints or night guards
- Active efforts to correct bite
- Anti-inflammatory medications
- Heat and ice application
After evaluating your condition, Dr. Hong will determine the treatment best suited for you. In many cases, a simple change in biting or chewing habit can have a positive impact on the condition and reduce symptoms.
